Our Story

Amanda Hamer, the founder of the nonprofit Diversability Inc., had a long-time dream to organize and simplify the variety of excellent resources available to the diversability community. We use the term diversability instead of disability because we believe all individuals have unique strengths that make them valuable members of their communities. She heard numerous stories of individuals and family members struggling to know what resources were available, where to find them, and in many ways, just wanting to know where to start.

Leveraging her long-time involvement in Central Oregon and superpower of connecting people, Amanda built a diverse team of individuals including parents, professionals, service providers, and others.

Together they built Diversability Village an easy-to-use, beautifully designed website ready to connect people with disabilities to local resources.

The website is becoming the go-to resource for the diversability community; a one-stop-shop linking the community to resources such as service providers, housing, service eligibility, recreation, activities, support groups, and so much more.

Our long-term goals are to expand the resource village to include all diversabilities and create a shareable template for other communities across the region and throughout the world to utilize, all while continuing to act on feedback and provide accurate information.

TL;DR

Amanda Hamer, a parent to a child with a diversability and founder of her own nonprofit, was frustrated at how difficult it is for individuals and their families to quickly and easily find resources to help them.

She assembled a team to build the website DiversabilityVillage.org. The website is becoming the go-to resource for the diversability community; a one-stop-shop linking the community to resources.
